Court guide

Appearing at Kyneton Magistrates’ Court

Kyneton Magistrates’ Court sits in a heritage-listed bluestone courthouse on Hutton Street, more than 160 years old. A 2018 refurbishment added an accessible entrance, separate waiting areas and interview rooms. The court does not sit every day: a registrar attends on sitting days only, which are published on the Magistrates’ Court’s calendar. Criminal and traffic charges from the local area are heard here, and so are family violence and personal safety intervention order matters. At your first mention, the magistrate will ask whether you are pleading guilty, need an adjournment for advice, or intend to contest the charge. If police want to speak with you first, Kyneton Police Station is on Jennings Street. Call us before any interview.

What to bring:
  • your charge sheet, summons or notice to appear
  • photo ID, such as your driver licence
  • character references, signed and dated
  • any medical, counselling or treatment reports
  • proof of completed courses, such as a drink-driver education program, if relevant
Parking: on-street only, so allow extra time. Read our Kyneton court guide.
