Mediation for Kyneton families

Agreement, not conflict

Family dispute resolution (FDR) is a structured mediation that helps separated parents and partners reach their own agreements. It’s faster, more private and far less costly than court — and the agreements tend to last.

Piper Street, Kyneton Our Accredited Mediator (AMDRAS) and Accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner helps Kyneton families with:
  • parenting arrangements and time with children
  • property and financial settlements
  • communication and co-parenting plans
  • section 60I certificates, if agreement isn’t reached

The process

How FDR works

Before most parenting cases can go to court, parties must make a genuine effort to resolve their dispute through family dispute resolution.

  1. Intake — a confidential individual session to check FDR is suitable and safe.
  2. Preparation — understanding the issues and your options.
  3. Mediation — a guided joint session, online or in person.
  4. Agreement — a parenting plan or consent orders, or a section 60I certificate if needed.

FAQs

Mediation questions

Is family dispute resolution compulsory?

For most parenting disputes, yes. You generally need a section 60I certificate before applying to court, unless an exception applies, such as family violence or urgency.

What is a section 60I certificate?

A certificate issued by an accredited FDR practitioner confirming that you attended (or that FDR wasn’t appropriate). It’s usually required to file a parenting application.

Can we mediate online from Kyneton?

Yes. Video mediation is common and works well, so there’s no need to travel.

What if there has been family violence?

Safety comes first. We assess every matter at intake, and FDR may not be appropriate. Exceptions to the FDR requirement apply in family violence cases. If you’re in danger, call 000.
